Katun means "princess" in the Altai language, and it is the most regal and beautiful of all the Altai rivers. Her exhilarating, rolling rapids offer exciting adventure, yet this thrilling river is easily accessible by first-time rafters.
This spectacular 120 mile journey offers pristine alpine scenery, with a number of remote Altai villages along the way, where you can watch wool being spun on a hand spindle or hear traditional Altai throat singing.

Itinerary

1 day

Arrival Barnaul. Depart for 10-hour bus trip to the village of Yaloman. Overnight in tents.

2 - 3 days

Rafting down the Katun river, rapids class 3-4, where you'll experience wilderness, taiga and mountains, with dinner and folk singing around the campfire.

4 day

A day of rest. Fishing, sauna, and sightseeing 5,000-year-old petroglyphs.

5-7 days

Rafting down river. We'll take out near the village of Chemal.

8 day

Depart by bus for a six-hour trip to Barnaul. Overnight in hotel.

9 day

Depart from Barnaul.
